“Boys will be Boys…” with Karen Olson, the Frac Queen.

Karen started her career in the oil and gas industry in the 80s, a time when few women were present. Despite facing numerous trials and tribulations throughout her 36-year career, Karen’s pursuit of a graduate degree at A&M changed her career trajectory. Her thesis on completions optimization in the Marcellus shale earned her a $5 million research grant and a job offer from Mobil.

Karen’s experience working in Midland proved crucial, as the industry progressed with unconventional plays. She went on to become the Director of Technologies for Southwestern Energy and now supports women and young girls to pursue engineering degrees while being active in SPE and Women in Hydraulic Fracturing Organization.
